Panch Prayag-The Five Sacred River Confluences

Panch

Prayag means confluence in Sanskrit, the five river confluences, are Vishnu Prayag, Nand Prayag, Karn prayag, Rudra Prayag and Dev Prayag in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand.

Vishnuprayag

The Alaknanda River originates from the glacier fields of Chaukhamba and later joined by Saraswathi River near Mana.

Nandaprayag

The second prayag in the cascade sequence of the confluences of main Alaknanda River with Nandakini river.

Karnaprayag

The Alaknanda river is joined by the Pindar river from the Pindar glacier below the Nanda Devi hill range.

Rudraprayag

At Rudra Prayag,Alaknanda river meets the Mandakini river and temples dedicated to Rudranath the Lord Shiva and goddess Chamunda are located here.

Devprayag

Devprayag is the confluence of two holy India rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda, after this confluence the river is known as the Ganges.
